Area 1 Coordinator
Sherlock Dow is a seasoned executive with more than 25 years of leadership experience across information technology, public service, and nonprofit governance. Educated at Rutgers University, he built a distinguished career as an IT executive while remaining deeply committed to expanding access to S.T.E.A.M. education and workforce pathways for young people.
Mr. Dow is an active and respected leader within Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, where he currently serves as Area 1 Director for New Jersey and as Foundation Chair of the nonprofit arm of the Zeta Nu Lambda Chapter. In these roles, he has led and supported statewide initiatives focused on civic engagement, youth development, expanding voting rights, and leadership training. His work includes spearheading signature programs such as the Young Men of Distinction Conference, D9 Day in Trenton, and voter empowerment efforts carried out in partnership with government, nonprofit, and corporate stakeholders.
Beyond his fraternity service, Mr. Dow serves as President of the National Pan Hellenic Council of Central Jersey, fostering collaboration among Divine Nine organizations to advance education, advocacy, and community impact. He is the Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of LearnUp Corporation, a mission driven organization that provides workforce readiness and entrepreneurship programming.
Mr. Dow’s service also includes past board membership with 100 Black Men of New Jersey, leadership as National Fathers Auxiliary Chair for Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated, and more than a decade of volunteerism and mentorship with Special Olympics New Jersey. He is married to Dr. Shae Brie Dow and is a devoted father of four and proud grandfather of three grandsons. Guided by a lifelong commitment to excellence and service, Mr. Dow continues to strengthen partnerships and lead initiatives that expand opportunity, empower future generations, and create lasting equity across communities.
Area 1 is responsible for supporting and guiding NPHC councils across Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, and Washington, DC.
The Area 1 Coordinator provides leadership, training, and ongoing assistance to ensure each council operates effectively, remains aligned with national initiatives, and delivers impactful programs within their communities.
Serving as the direct link between national leadership and councils in this region, the Area 1 Coordinator helps strengthen communication, promote collaboration, and uphold NPHC’s mission of unity, service, and excellence throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic.
